01/25/2004: "Macintosh's Birthday"

Well yesterday was Macintosh’s 20th birthday. I know a lot of you don’t care, but I’m a Mac Geek, so I care. The Mac is now as old as I am, I’ve been using Macs for as long as I remember. I remember going to my brother’s house and playing on one with programs like Kid Pix, Glider, Prince of Persia. I miss those programs. My brother taught me almost all I know about Macs; how to use them, fix them, take them apart. He even gave me my first computer, it was a Powerbook 180c. I loved that Powerbook, I used to use it all the time. Unfortunately it broke about 8 years ago. The computer I got after that was a Quadra 800. It was an Okay computer at the time, but after awhile, it started to show it’s age. My next computer was a PowerMac 6500. That was a big upgrade at the time, I was able to play MP3 files and run more programs. But when I got a iMac DV (I think it was a DV) That was a major upgrade for me. I had more processor speed, and was able to play the sims at a normal speed (under the 6500 it was slow), and watch DVD's. After using it for a number of years, the Hard drive in it died. SO I lost everything, all my files, MP3s, videos, old cam pics, ect.. Before that happened, one of my brothers let me play with a PowerMac G4 Cube for a little while, after the hard drive died in the iMac, he let me keep the Cube. I grabbed the memory from the iMac and put it in the Cube, installed a new operating system (Mac os X) but still included os 9. Installed all the programs I needed and have been using it for about 2 years now. I love my Cube. Of course after looking at Cubeowner.com, I’ve been pondering about upgrading it, but for now, I’m happy with the way it is. But of course I wouldn’t mind getting a G5 or a G4 Powerbook. I have a iBook, but its not working, I have the problem a lot of fellow iBook users are having with logic board failures. Until I get that fixed, the Cube is the only computer I'm using.
The oldest computer I own, I didn't get it till a few years ago; I got a Apple IIe from my aunt who was just going to toss it out. I told her I'll take it off her hands, so she gave me it, along with all the user manuals, and program disks and everything that it came with. I got it home, and to my surprise, it worked. I thought there was a problem with it, but there wasn't. It also came with a little controller for the games. I don't really use it. but its a nice to look at.

I need a boot disk for the Mac SE if I want to play with it. That or look for a really old hard drive to install in it.
